Calling all Designers

Canada, we’ve asked for your inspiration, and now we’re about to take the next exciting step in building the identity of our nation’s first WNBA team. We’re calling on designers nationwide to join us in this exciting and monumental task. Applications are now open until August 30 — though we may close submissions earlier than that if we receive an overwhelming response (so get yours in early if you can!).

We’re assembling a team of creative minds with cross-functional expertise and deep knowledge to help us develop this new team’s name, identity and value system. This isn’t just a design project—it’s a chance to shape a brand that will stand as a symbol of Canadian pride on the global stage.

We’re still asking Canadians to share their inspiration for the Toronto WNBA team until August 30. This will be the foundation on which we build. From there, our Leadership Team, a Council of Canadians, and a few others will help us narrow down the list of potential team names to just two or three top contenders.

“This is a chance to be a part of something historic.”

Once we’ve identified our top names, the real magic begins. Our group of unique thinkers will engage in a series of design sprints, transforming these names into fully developed brand systems. Each brand system will include a logo, typography, colour usage, patterns, photography style and sample applications to create a cohesive and powerful identity for the team.

And this is where you would come in.

We are looking for talented individuals to join our design team as fully committed contract designers for the duration of this project’s design phase. Your role will be critical in bringing these ideas to life, and your contributions will shape the look and feel of Canada’s first WNBA team. No pressure, right?

Are you the designer we’re looking for?

We’re seeking designers who are not only talented but passionate about contributing to something larger than themselves. You’ll work with our design team and mentors to turn these names into fully functional brand systems. Once a final direction is chosen, you’ll help refine the components to ensure the organization can use the brand seamlessly.

“Your role will be critical in bringing these ideas to life”

Here are just some of the things we’re looking for:

  • Strong problem-solving skills and creativity
  • Proficiency in the Adobe Suite and digital creation mediums
  • Experience in logo and brand system development
  • A deep understanding of design principles and typography
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Commitment to the duration of the contract and availability during working hours
  • Passion for sports branding and a desire to make a lasting impact

The nitty-gritty

Submissions will be accepted until August 30th (but again, may close earlier than that if we have an overwhelming response). If selected, your role as a paid designer will begin shortly thereafter. You’ll be working as an independent contractor with a fixed fee for the project’s duration.

You can submit your application and read more details here.

Again, this is more than just a job—it’s a chance to be a part of something historic. If you’re ready to contribute your talents to shaping the future of Canada’s first WNBA team, we want to hear from you.

Let’s create something extraordinary together.
